Nokia has finally secured a deal with Samsung that will allow them to purchase all the outstanding shares in Symbian Limited. The deal means Nokia is this much closer to making Symbian open source. This means one of the leading mobile computing platforms will be much easier to develop for.
I’ve always thought it was easier to use the Symbian OS on a mobile phone, especially relative to Windows Mobile. It will be interesting how this deal will affect Symbian’s mobile OS market share in the future.
